Head of People. Role Overview:

They are seeking a strategic, empathetic, and execution-focused Head of People to lead all aspects of People & Culture at their headquarters and across our spa locations. This role will devise and implement HR strategy, talent acquisition and onboarding, employee development, performance management measured with clear KPIs, culture-building, compliance, and team engagement. The candidate will be able to operate at both a strategic and operational level, helping to identify, lead and implement people programs across culture, compensation, talent management, to support the passionate team. You’ll be a key partner to leadership, ensuring our people practices support a high-performing, mission-driven team collectively.


Key Responsibilities:

People Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop, implement, and maintain a scalable People strategy aligned with Spencer’s values, growth goals, and operational needs.
  • Manage the Spencer’s People strategy in the designated Human Resources system, Rippling.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the executive team on all people-related matters.
  • Lead and grow the People team, including HR, recruiting, and learning & development functions.
  • Stay up to date on the latest in technology and AI to support all areas of people operations.


Talent Acquisition & Retention

  • Build and oversee a high-quality recruiting function for HQ and spa locations in Rippling.
  • Design inclusive hiring processes and ensure a strong employer brand in the wellness space.
  • Drive initiatives to improve retention and career growth, especially among frontline spa staff.


Employee Experience & Culture

  • Own the employee lifecycle—from onboarding to offboarding—with a focus on engagement and development.
  • Foster a culture of feedback, transparency, and recognition across all teams.
  • Lead DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Belonging) efforts and ensure an inclusive work environment.
  • Plan semi-frequent retreats and experiences for HQ and spa locations. Including monthly KPI, birthday and anniversary celebrations and quarterly retreats.


Performance & Development

  • Roll out and manage performance review cycles, goal-setting, and growth planning.
  • Partner with department heads to identify training needs and development pathways.
  • Champion leadership development at all levels of the company.


Compliance & HR Operations

  • Ensure legal compliance across federal, state, and local HR regulations.
  • Own and maintain employee handbooks, policies, and documentation systems.
  • Oversee compensation and benefits strategy in partnership with Finance.


Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in People/HR roles, with at least 3 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Experience scaling HR practices in a fast-growing, multi-location business.
  • Deep knowledge of labor laws, employee relations, and HR compliance.
  • Empathetic leadership style with strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience with both corporate and hourly/frontline teams preferred.
  • Passion for wellness, hospitality, or customer service industries is a strong plus.
  • Able to balance big-picture and creative thinking with strategy implementation and a hands-on execution across all areas of the employee journey.
